Today we have had a Science assessment, we have to find the definition of conduction, convection, contraction, and expansion. Also, we had to explain what heat causes.
- Conduction - Heat can pass energy through an object causing the energy to pass through the whole object. Conduction relates to an experiment we did where we heated up a can with water inside of it. The heat heated the can and heated the water causing it to boil.
- Contraction - Heat can cause particles to vibrate and moving around and when it calms down the particles bind closer and cause the object to shrink. Contraction relates to an experiment we did were
- Convention - When heat touches an object the particles start to move around throughout the object. Convention relates to an experiment where we put a crystal in cold water. The Crystal started to dissolve and spread through the water causing the water to change color.
- Expansion - When heat energy touches particles it moves a lot and causes something to expand. Contraction relates to an experiment we did on a ball and a hoop. When the ball was cold it could fit right through the hoop. But when we heated it up the ball got bigger and it didn't fit through the hoop.
- Conduction- Transferring heat by passing energy through a solid.
- Convection- Moving heat by moving particles
- Contraction- Getting smaller/leaving
- Expansion- When heat particles exposed making things bigger
