Gloriavle

  • What are the traditional roles of men, women and children that are shown in this community? Milk, farm food, fruit,

  • At what age are members of Gloriavale expected to begin work? As soon as your old enough to hold a vacuum

  • What role does religion play in the lives of Gloriavale members? I think their religion kind of controls their lives in some way.

  • Do you think the people living in Gloriavale are happy? Why or why not. Properly no because they work for nothing, they don't get money. Also, you are not allowed to leave Gloriavle. Very strict rules.

  • Do you think the people in Gloriavale experience Human Rights? I think they don't because basically their whole lives are controlled by other people.

  • Would you be happy to live in a community like Gloriavale? Why or why not? No, because their very strict don't feel like I would have many human rights and also I feel that there wouldn't be much freedom

School should start at 10am

 School should start at 10am

Teenager brains nowadays don't properly start till 10am. This causes them not to get as much learning as they should be getting. Also, this can cause students to feel weaker and not ready to learn. Proved by Studies, 15 per cent of NZ school kids are not attending school because they are too tired.

In the morning, kids aren't able to eat breakfast. With school starting at 8:30 kids have to wake up earlier just to have breakfast. This causes the kids to be moody and more Irritable. Academically, this can affect their learning.

If school started later, kids would be happier. They would have more time to get ready or eat breakfast. This would also encourage kids to attend school more regularly. This causes less stress for parents to wake up early and take kids to school.

Concluding my essay, I think people need to look more into this subject, and really think about what we could do or fix about this situation.

Creative Communities

This week in social studies we have been forming political parties. For this, we have had to make a logo, slogan, policies, and a speech here it is. Our party is called the Creative Communities. We focus on kids' education, Climate change, Carbine dioxide, and oil companies.

Here is our poster

Our Speach

For many decades and centuries, People have been making world-changing stuff like the light bulb or the wheel. But today some people don't have enough ideas on how to reduce climate change. Vote for us and make a change to human minds, make them think on what ideas could change the world and reduce the carbon dioxide in the air or stop the oil companies from destroying the marine ecosystem.  All we can do for now is just to have a little courage and share it with the Hornby community and make many ideas to come. So I say Help, Change the world for future generations. Thank you for your time.

This has been really fun to do with my group, Loved the creative thinking. For next term, I hope to do more activities with my group and learn a bit more about Political Groups.

Science assessment

Today we have had a Science assessment, we have to find the definition of conduction, convection, contraction, and expansion. Also, we had to explain what heat causes.

  • Conduction - Heat can pass energy through an object causing the energy to pass through the whole object. Conduction relates to an experiment we did where we heated up a can with water inside of it. The heat heated the can and heated the water causing it to boil.
  • Contraction - Heat can cause particles to vibrate and moving around and when it calms down the particles bind closer and cause the object to shrink. Contraction relates to an experiment we did were
  • Convention - When heat touches an object the particles start to move around throughout the object. Convention relates to an experiment where we put a crystal in cold water. The Crystal started to dissolve and spread through the water causing the water to change color.
  • Expansion - When heat energy touches particles it moves a lot and causes something to expand. Contraction relates to an experiment we did on a ball and a hoop. When the ball was cold it could fit right through the hoop. But when we heated it up the ball got bigger and it didn't fit through the hoop.

  • Conduction- Transferring heat by passing energy through a solid.
  • Convection- Moving heat by moving particles
  • Contraction- Getting smaller/leaving
  • Expansion- When heat particles exposed making things bigger

Method:

  1. Use a 250ml beaker get 200ml of water
  2. Add 2 spoonfuls of dirt
  3. Add 10ml of oil
  4. Add a spoonful of pebbles
  5. Stir it for 2min
  6. Label a piece of paper with your names on it and put it under your beaker
  7. Take a photo of your experiment
Results:

Dilution Method:

We tipped 100ml of our dirty water into another Beaker mixed it for 2 minutes and then repeated it again.

In the start our solute was rocks and dirt our Solvent was our water and oil then we mixed and made a solution.

Next, we diluted the water we tipped 100ml of our dirty water into another Beaker mixed it for 2 minutes, and then repeated it again. In our solution, our water was separated from the rocks and dirt.

Lastly, we put the water through our filtration trying to separate the solute (dirt, rocks) from our solvent (water)

In the end, it unfoundedly didn't work it was not drinkable.
I think it was because we added too much dirt. Next time well add less dirt.
